Where: Old Joliet Prison, 1125 Collins Street, Joliet, IL 60432

What is the “Bash?” –The Bash At The Big House is a one-day music festival hosted by the Joliet Area Historical Museum to benefit continuing efforts to restore and stabilize the Old Prison site, and encourage new creative uses for the facility. It features some of the best artists in local original music, plus special guest friends of the local music community. There will be two stages with the performances alternating between them.
What else is there to do besides listening to great music? – There will be a farmers market, live art demonstrations, self-guided prison tours, kids’ corner, Blues Mobile display…
Will there be food and drink available?— Yes, there will be several food trucks serving a variety of tasty items, a beer tent, plus water and other beverages for sale. If you intend to drink alcohol, please remember to bring a valid state-issued I.D. or drivers license.
Where do I park?—General admission parking is available in lots on the east side of Collins St., adjacent to the old Women’s Prison, accessible from Woodruff Rd. after turning east at the intersection of Woodruff and Collins. ADA Parking is available in the Old Joliet Prison lot immediately to the south of the main prison building, west of the intersection of Collins and Woodruff Rd. You must have handicapped-designated plates or placard to enter the lot. See the parking map at the end of this FAQ page.
Where is the entrance into the Old Prison for the event? – The main festival gate is the old “sally port” gate facing Collins St., located about halfway along the east wall of the prison parallel to Collins St. Festival personnel will be there to greet you!
Will tickets be available at the door?— Yes. But buying ahead of time will speed your entry!
Can I leave the “Bash” and re-enter later in the day? — Yes, you can leave and will be given a bracelet to gain re-entry.
Can I bring a chair?— Yes! The event will be held in the prison yard, so bring bag chairs and/or a blanket to set up your spot! There will be an area right in front of the stages we will keep clear of chairs for those who wish to stand up close or dance, but those are the only restrictions.
Can I bring an umbrella?— Yes, personal umbrellas are fine (but please be courteous of other guests and their sightlines). Awnings or other pop-up tents or similar devices are not allowed.
Anything else I should bring?— Sunscreen, bug spray.
What about coolers? – No coolers allowed. Food and beverages are available for purchase inside the fest. Small purses or bags/backpacks for blankets, jackers, etc. are allowed, but will be checked at the gate.
What’s the bathroom situation?— The “Bash” will have an area of the prison yard set up with port-a-potties for the event.
Is the “Bash” family friendly?— Yes, families are welcome! Kids 12-and-under are free! There will be several kid-friendly activities, including a sing-a-long circle with one of our performers, plus a hooping area with hula hoops for kids to try along with some talented guest hooping artists.
Can I tour the Old Joliet Prison?— Yes, included with your entry into the festival is the opportunity to tour several of the prison buildings and the prison grounds!
Will merchandise be available? – Yes, the Old Joliet Prison and the various artists will have merchandise for sale at a designated merch tent!
What if it rains? What if the weather is severe? –Being a rain or shine event, every attempt will be made to complete the show. Personal rain umbrellas are welcome, but please be respectful of those around you in case you are blocking their view. With regard to severe weather, we will be monitoring the weather. In the event of showers, throw open an umbrella and dance in the rain. If severe weather approaches, patrons will most likely be asked to return to their vehicles until the weather passes.
Can I bring my dog or pet? – Sorry, no animals or pets, other than designated service animals.
